Fireworks Display and Chicken Barbeque – July 5, 2014
A joint project between the Chamber of Commerce and the Koselke-Mayfield post of the American Legion in Wanatah, this event features a variety of activities the whole family can enjoy. It starts in the afternoon with the Hawg Creek Duck race and an Open Pit BBQ Dinner. Following the fireworks display at dusk, there is a dance in the Legion hall for those over 21. Held the first Saturday after the 4th of July.
Please consider making a donation to the Fireworks Fund, so we may continue our Awesome Display! Make checks payable to American Legion Post 403, and in the Memo please write “Fireworks Donation”. You may drop a check at the Post or mail to PO Box 5 Wanatah, IN 46390.
Wanatah Community Vacation Bible School – Aug 4-8, 2014
The Wanatah Community Vacation Bible School will be held from August 4 through 8 at Sacred Heart church. This year’s theme is “Weird Animals” and more information and online registration can be viewed at: Weird Animals – Wanatah VBS 2014
2014 Summer Reading Program at the Library – Fizz! Boom! Read!
Our long winter really is finally at an end, and it’s time for Summer Reading! This year, our activities will be centered on Science — Fizz! Boom! Read! Every Tuesday from Noon-2 pm you can participate in a science activity at the Library, or take home the instructions and do it yourself anytime.
Sign up and start reading the week of June 9-14. Our program will officially run from June 16-July 26, with a a party and prizes for those students who complete the required books or pages. Registration is open to young persons 2-18. Parental participation and encouragement is strongly encouraged.
High School students can choose to participate in a summer book club discussing the “Divergent’ series, or other books series of students’ choosing.

Meals on Wheels – Volunteer drivers are needed for the Wanatah area Meals on Wheels program. Volunteers must have a reliable car with insurance coverage and be able to give an hour and a half for the program.
Volunteers are in many cases the only person shut-ins will see during the day. Those in the Wanatah area interested in volunteering can call (219) 874-9117.
Bowls of Plenty – Free Soup Supper – Sacred Heart Church in Wanatah offers a free soup supper for all surrounding community residents to help those who are hungry or in need of companionship and fellowship.
You are welcome to join them on the 4th Tuesday of every month from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at the Sacred Heart Church Hall, 204 Ohio Street, in Wanatah.

Real Services Meals for Senior Citizens – Real Services Meals for Senior Citizens are served at the Koselke Mayfield American Legion Post in Wanatah Monday through Friday. Any senior citizen age 60 and older is eligible to attend dinner. Please call the legion at (219) 733-2832 by 10 AM to reserve a meal the day before you wish to attend.
Doors open at 10 AM and serving begins around 11:30. A donation of $3 is asked. The meals are nutritionally formulated for a good diet plan. Area seniors are invited to attend. Come and meet your contemporaries and neighbors and enjoy fellowship with them.
Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day out – Faith United Methodist Church hosts a Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day out from 8 to 11:30 AM on the second Saturday of each month with adult supervision for the children. Games, crafts and snacks are featured. Call (219) 733-2909 for information or to register.
