Pork Chop Dinner
Salem United Church of Christ will sponsor its annual Pork Chop Dinner on Friday, Sept. 24 in conjuction with Scarecrow Fest. 4:30 to 7 PM at Wanatah School. Carryouts are available. The meal includes Pork Chop, Baked Potato, Green Beans, Applesauce, Roll, Drink & Dessert. Adults $10.00, Children $5.00. Extra chops $3.
Stop by Salem United Church of Christ, 302 S. Main St. or contact any Salem member for $1 off coupons or download a coupon for $1 off the ticket price from the church's website. Tickets will be sold at the door only.
Preschool Openings
Honey Bear Preschool in Wanatah has a few openings for fall classes for 3 to 5 year olds. The school is located at Faith United Methodist Church, 15555 S. County Road 900 West. Call Diane McClanahan at (219) 733-9466 or (219) 929-8319. Classes will begin Sept. 7.
Real Services
Real Services and the Agency on Aging will meet at 10:45 a.m. Aug. 17 for senior citizens regarding prescription insurance assistance to pay for Medicare premiums, co-pays and co-insurance costs. If your monthly income is less than $1,354 or $1,821 for a couple, you may be eligible for assistance.

The Scarecrow Festival Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at Wanatah Town Hall.

The Wanatah Historical Society meeting will be at 10 AM on Saturday, Sept. 4 at the Town Hall.
Wanatah Historical Society items for sale
The Wanatah Historical Society still has some items available for sale. The new society cookbook is $10 plus $2 for postage. Pictorial Volume 1 is $17 including shipping; Pictorial volume 2 is $22 including shipping; buy both for $35 including shipping; postcard book, $20 plus postage; railroad museum jackets are $20 plus postage.
Save postage by buying any of the above at the town hall, the Wanatah Public Library, the J-Mart or the Wanatah branch of Horizon Bank.
Memorial Bricks for the museum courtyard are $60 and may be inscribed with the donor's name or in memory of an individual or family. More information at www.wanatah.org
Meals on Wheels
Volunteer drivers are needed for the Wanatah area Meals on Wheels program. Volunteers must have a reliable car with insurance coverage and be able to give an hour and a half for the program.
Volunteers are in many cases the only person shut-ins will see during the day. Those in the Wanatah area interested in volunteering can call (219) 874-9117.
Mothers' and Fathers' Day out
Faith United Methodist Church hosts a Mothers' and Fathers' Day out from 8 to 11:30 AM on the second Saturday of each month with adult supervision for the children. Games, crafts and snacks are featured. Call (219) 733-2909 for information or to register.
Real Services Meals for Senior Citizens
Real Services Meals for Senior Citizens are served at the Koselke Mayfield American Legion Post in Wanatah Monday through Friday. Any senior citizen age 60 and older is eligible to attend dinner. Please call the legion at (219) 733-2832 by 10 AM to reserve a meal the day before you wish to attend.
Doors open at 10 AM and serving begins around 11:30. A donation of $3 is asked. The meals are nutritionally formulated for a good diet plan. Area seniors are invited to attend. Come and meet your contemporaries and neighbors and enjoy fellowship with them.
